Wiki Set-Up Instructions

  • Join pb-wiki and Create a Wiki
  • Important: Label your wiki in the following sequence - Grad Year+Last name+ first initial: all one word. example for John Smith = 10smithj (this is the same as your first class and server name)
  • Scroll down past the pay options to "No thanks, just take me to my wiki"
  • Go the settings on the right. Set your wiki for Private.
  • Go to Users and add an e-mail address for your parents, your tutor, CAS coordinator, and IBDP coordinator.  You can add e-mail addresses for CAS project supervisors as you go along.
  • Your CAS and IBDP coordinators (clarka@yis.ac.jp and mcilroys@yis.ac.jp) already have pbwiki accounts but you may need to help your parents or tutor set-up an account by going to  http://pbwiki.com/?refwiki=yiscas
  • You will be listed as administrator. All other members should be listed a "writers" which is the default setting.
  • Now that you are set-up you can copy these instructions and paste them into your own wiki to make it easy.
  • You are ready to start setting up your CAS Wiki pages.

CAS Wiki in Detail

You will need to create 3 types of pages - a frontpage, a consultation comment page, and a page for every CAS project you are involved with. For CAS activity pages, just title the page the name of the CAS project you are doing (ie H.S. Soccer, School Web Reporter)

Frontpage

See the Frontpage of the yiscas wiki for details regarding the content of your frontpage.

Consultation Comment Page

This is the page where your comments, your CAS coordinator's comments and your parent's comment will be posted corresponding to the Progress dates listed in the table on your front page. The first consultation is for feedback around your plan. The second consultation is for feedback about your early implementation of the plan. The third consulation is in regard to your completion of CAS projects, reflection, and progress regarding the aims and outcomes.

CAS Project Pages

  • Before you start a project or make a page you need to alert me to that by filling out the information through the Online CAS Proposal Portal.
  • You need to create a page for each project you are involved with. This will be the permanent record of your involvement with this project and where activity supervisors will comment.
  • Each page needs at least one photo on it either of you participating in the CAS project or a photo that you took while working on the CAS project.
  • Remember the Process of Experiential Learning and how it applies to CAS. You need to document your goals and related reflection.
  • Remember this wiki is your method for recording your growth regarding the Aims and Outcomes of CAS. The importance of doing this properly can't be overstated. All you have to do is engage with this process and put some time in every week to make sure it is current and shows the dynamic nature of the things your are doing. Without it, you won't receive your IB Diploma no matter how well you do on your exams so set yourself up for success!
    • Post Photos of your work with CAS
    • Post Blog-like journal entries recording experiences or stories of successes and failures.
    • Ask your activity supervisors, your parents, your tutor, your CAS coordinator to check out your CAS  wiki and comment. This will give you useful feedback and further document your progress with regard to the Aims and Outcomes.

  • Comments from Supervisors

Each activity supervisor will need to comment and point to evidence about the activity they oversee for you. This is the only paper component to managing your CAS Project. Download an CAS Individual Completion Form from either this wiki or the class website.  Remember it is your responsibility to receive and record feedback from your supervisor. (Also remember to provide seperate contact information - e-mail, mailing address and phone number for your supervisor for off-campus activities. The school needs to be able to independently verify your involvement in all CAS activities. Unfortunately, if we are unable to contact your supervisor, you will not receive credit for your participation in that activity.)

General Protocol

  • Before you start a project or make a page you need to alert me to that by filling out the information through the Online CAS Proposal Portal.
  • Everytime you add a new page make sure to add a link to it in your SideBar so that it is easy to navigate to. (Just below the sidebar is a "edit the sidebar" option.)
  • After you have your CAS wiki set-up make sure you make regular back-up copies of it so that if something happens you will have the documentation to support your CAS work. A good method for this is to copy the text and past it into a word document and save this along with copies of all the photos you upload into a CAS file on your computer or server account or you can use the back-up function within the wiki to save a copy of the html on your computer.
